Writing to reach you

I'm this hopeless romantic, escapism is my middle name. If I'm not writing stories I'm drawing, if I'm not shooting photo's I'm writing lyrics or poetry. And the result ? Piles of unfinished works of art, ofcoarse. I gave up on most of my projects, some even before I started them, but hey, there is the urge to create, just not the will to see it through. You know the lovely comments you get in yearbooks ? Most likely to succeed, most likely to become an alcoholic that robs old ladies, crap like that...? Well, I was the most likely to succeed in a creative profession...look at me now :P Anyway, this is not about my self pity, this post is about one of the things that sparks my imagination, music. Someone once told me that my choice in music made them feel sad, and not in a good way...if sadness can ever be good. Thing is, I find sadness to be one of the best ways to inspire creativity. I never understood how people could listen to happy music, and feel enlightened. I find little joy in writing a happy lyric, story, or poem, it's just such a hollow, dare I say, fake emotion. I'm still of the opinion anybody can write something happy, be he/she a dipshit with the IQ of a potato and the creativity of woodpecker, or some so called professional with a degree in whatever that took him/her 8 years of his/her life to get and a debt of 100k to get there. I fake joy and happiness on a daily bases, it's like women faking an orgasm, it just comes natural after a while. What was the title again ? Oh yea, songs... Here is a selection of songs you may not know or version you may not have heard, and should really know/hear. Ofcoarse they are sad, mostly, and by artists that aren't that well known, or that are from Holland, so how could you know them ? Well, you could try to get to know them, just nose around KazaA, most are easy enough to get. The Dutch : Kane - Always on my mind. -> Great Dutch band, on the verge of breaking through internationally. They like to cover U2 a lot, not that they need it, cos their own songs are often just as good, if not better. And talk about sadness, the singer just lost his second wife to cancer. This is a live version of the hit by Willie Nelson, great stuff, and by far better then Willie's version if you ask me... Other great songs by them : "Damn those Eyes" "I will keep my head down" and "Let It Be" 16 Down - Subtle Movements -> Good stuff, this song just radiates melancholy if you ask me. The band is pretty much a one hit wonder. They have a new single out, but they have to make something really special to equal this song. Green Lizard - Speak the Words -> Now there are 2 versions to be found, the album version, and an accoustic version. They are a rockband, so the album version starts soft but soon gets a lot louder. I suggest you look out for the acoustic, a so called "2 meter sessie" Two other great songs by them are "Autumn" and "Turn Around", worth a hear too. Johan - Day is Done -> This great band from...Holland has been around for ages, yet few Dutch know them. What I personally don't undrerstand, but hey. They write hit albums, every song on it could be a single. I suggest you have a look at "Tumble and Fall" and "Time and Time again" too, great stuff. Raccoon - Blue Days -> No really, it's a Dutch band. The singer loves using an english accent, weirdo... Another great song by them is "Smoothly" Silkstone - Rain has come -> Great band, if not a bit Pearl Jammy in the voice department. "Ready" "Lady" and "Lost" are also nice to listen to. The not so Dutch : Andreas Johnson - Unbreakable -> This skandy singer has some lovely songs. Best known for his hit "Glorious" which I would also recommend, along with "Waterfall" and "The Games We Play" Espen Lind - Black Sunday -> The live version of this song is great. Espen Lind is known by many for his huge hit "When Susanna Cries", in my opinion he isn't a one hit wonder though. "Lucky for you" is also a great song, and there are some happy songs...oh well... HIM - Heaven Tonight -> They had a hit with "Join me" The weirdo glamrockish band are good at what they do, eventhough they scared many potential fans off with their looks... "The Sacrement" is good too, and then some... Jive Jones - I Belong -> What the fork is this Peter Andre wanabee doing here ?! Well, this song happens to be quite nice...sorry... Keith Caputo - Let's Pretend -> Darn! Great stuff! This guy makes weird songs, dances weird, and used to be in a weird band. but solo he's great. "Neurotic" and "Home" are but two of his other great songs, and there is much more where that came from... Kent - 747 -> This song comes in 2 versions, English and uhm Swedish ? Great song nonetheless. There is another great song, but i can't remember it's title. Saybia - Empty Stairs -> Lot's of great songs. Noticing a trend yet ? Lots of scandinavian bands in my list eh ? pther great songs by them are "7 Demons", "Joy", "The Second You Sleep" and actually any other songs you can find. Switchfoot - Only Hope -> Nice, very nice! I heard these guys in a commercial for a phone company. I just had to hear more, and found some great songs. "Learning To Breath" and "Let That Be Enough" are also great tunes. The Rasmus - Funeral Song -> Recently these guys scored a hit with "In the Shadows", the entire album is great though, and it's not their first, more like 6th. That's about it for now, check them out...
